Penny had terrible ear infections and had partly lost hearing when she came to Heartland and was sent to Fred's house to be fostered. She had to have several surgeries to get the ears under control. During the six months of observing her daily and after talking about her with some therapy dog trainers Fred felt that Penny had the necessary qualities that may make her a good therapy dog. After the long recovery and an amazing coincidence Penny went to a family in Oregon to become a service dog to an autistic boy!
