Josie, a blue female Weimaraner, came to Fred on 13 October 2002.

First impressions: I've got my hands full with Josie, she is a wild one. I need to work on her this afternoon - I need to get Josie on the long line and get some of that wildness under control. .. Her color and physique are really beautiful. You wouldn't find any better blue weim anywhere-she's great. She is a lover from the word GO. .. The behaviors we can take care of; Josie listens pretty darned well. She had hips xrayed, and the vet had put the xrays out as the most perfect that he's ever seen, to show everyone what hips are SUPPOSED to look like. .. Blues are not standard, they are disqualified from show ring--but could do most any other kind of titles. She has a WONDERFUL temperament, and physique--if I were a judge looking at her, I'd be VERY impressed. She looks like a doggie weight lifter - VERY muscular. She has an irridescent blue sheen when the light strikes her right. [She is] almost jet black and [has] piercing gold eyes. Gail said she sent Josie over here because she needed my help with training.

As days went by: Josie is desperate for attention and affection--and the majority of problems stems from that--she WANTS someone to love her more than anything. We'll have no trouble placing her, she is a very desirable dog. LOL-we do have a few things to get straightened out all right(Josie and I). Appearantly, she has been corrected for jumping up, and she constantly paws at you trying to get your attention. She is very needy of attention and affection--she just cann't get enough. Trouble is, she needs to learn more gentle manners. Josie is frantic to get ALL of your attention ALL of the time--I think because she's been very much neglected most of her life. .. She'd be MORE than able to [do Agility]--she is amazingly strong. .. I think she is extremely desirable--and the blue color--those qualities will be extremely difficult to find--there are not any top breeders wanting to put the time and effort into blues because it is not standard - the best breeders only breed to the standard, meaning that people with blues are not showing or competing in anything much so there is nothing they breed FOR other than color, which to me makes Josie an extremely rare find, and something you'd NEVER be able to see in a small puppy--you'd have no way of knowing what it would grow into, other than looking at parents, and that is no guarantee. I don't know about the papers situation, might be able to get them but probably not - but there may be a way to be able to compete in agility etc. anyway. .. There are so many health things that can come up with LITTLE puppies--[but] there is absolutely NOTHING weak or unhealthy about Josie. ..

She is a little wild and rambunctious---but that can be controled. .. Josie has a TON of retriever instinct, like Enka. I have a feeling she would make a superb hunting dog--I see A LOT of drive in her. I wouldn't waste that because of color. Seeing her temperament--she will bond with you better than I could guarantee a small puppy would - because I can SEE what she is developed into. She needs some training though, I'm going to try taking her on a walk in the woods today. I want to get Josie really used to it, I'm working on her coming when called. Gail is finding out about getting papers that would allow her to compete in AKC events--as for the breeding, she said she's already spayed, all though, I cann't really see a scar.

She is the most attentive and devoted lady you've ever seen - she doesn't like to let you out of sight for a minute. She LOVES to cuddle, almost to a fault-LOL. She gets on the bed, and likes to stick her nose right on the back of your neck - it tickled when she breathes on you, and if you move her, she's back laying on you in 10 seconds - LOL. She wants her head right on the pillow with you, and her nose buried up against your neck. She weighs about 35 kg I'd guess; she has gold eyes with a brown fleck in her right eye, it is a bit unusual looking.

I am paying extra attention to Dixie, I bring her in to be just with me sometimes - she tolerates Josie just fine, but I don't think they'll ever be as good a friends as Josie and Enka - they do play together some, but not like Enka does. That is ok, there is no problem as long as I give some special attention to Dixie.

When Josie got too rough and dominant, she [Dixie] put her in her place, and Josie is big and VERY strong.

Josie is needing intense training work - she's still pretty wild, and strong as a Clydesdale. I have a lot of "untraining" to do before I even can start training in new things. She isn't "bad" at all, she's just SO eager to please, and has had roughness trained in. .. I really like her, she is a real lover.

27 October 2002 - Josie went to Des Moines Iowa - seems like a nice family she's going to. I liked her a lot--even if she was a handful to control. I sort of like them like that in a way I guess - they have some spirit and spunk, even if they do make you a little crazy sometimes.
